This tool is a collection of previously copyrighted tests and testing
procedures. Questions from previously validated tests were copied, organized
according to the life areas described in Dr. Jon Weinberg published works and
then scored in accordance with the individual authors recommendations.
There has been no attempt to create a new diagnosis instrument. We have
attempted to provide a compilation of proven tests so that the "clients'
diagnosis" of their own behavior can be compared to multiple scales and a
comprehensive profile of symptoms and consequences be developed for analysis.
This evaluation tool will summarize the results of 9 individual scales. These
testing scales are based on the following works.
M.A.S.T. - (Dr. Melvin Seizer, 1970)
NCA - (National Council on Alcoholism,
1972)
Life Areas Interview Techniques/Hazelden, Dr. Jon Weinberg, 1972)
A Validation Manual of all tests used by iMR is available to our customers.

The Psychological Scales Test is a compilation of individual psychological
tests that were authored by reliable sources, validated independently from the
creating author(s) and were available for public use. Each scale is scored in
accordance with the author's instructions. The instrument includes Depression,
Cognitive Slippage, Anxiety and Anger scales.
Depression = CES-D (Rutgers University Press) Myrna M. Weissman, Jerome K.
Myers and Catherine Eo Ross.
Cognitive Slippage = (State University of New York at Buffalo) Tracey C. Miera
and Michael L. Raulin.
Anxiety Scale = (Florida State University -University of Georgia) David
Westhuis and Bruce A. Thyer.
Anger Scale = (Based on two MMPI scales -Personality Inventory -2 and the
Interpersonal Behavior Scale) Glenda Loomis
This instrument is a compilation of previously copyrighted tests and testing
procedures. Questions from previously validated tests were copied and then
scored in accordance with the individual authors’ recommendations. No attempt
has been made to create a new diagnostic instrument. We have attempted to
provide a compilation of proven tests so the "clients' diagnosis" of their own
behavior can be compared to multiple scales and a comprehensive profile of
symptoms be developed for analysis. The use of multiple scales eliminates the
dependence on a single instrument and any bias or limitation that it may
contain.
The DSM-5 is the source for the Antisocial and Conduct Disorder designations
and the scoring method used. Antisocial Practices questions resemble those
included in the MMPI and scoring techniques are similar to those recommended in
the related scales. The Lifestyle Criminality Screening Form is based on the
works of Dr. Glenn D Walters, which can be found in the book "The Criminal
Lifestyle-Patterns of Serious Criminal Conduct" (Sage Publications)
Note: Both adolescents and adults can use this tool. The questions are
categorized by age and the computer isolates those responses that are
applicable to each client group.

The Alcohol and Drug self-tests are designed to:
Determine what the individual's perspective is on his, or her, own use of
alcohol and other non-prescribed drugs.
Determine what type of family
environment the individual was raised in, or might be living in at the present
time.
This test scale was designed and was validated using test subjects that
honestly answered these questions. It is for this reason, that it should not be
used as an assessment instrument if the individual taking the test is not doing
so voluntarily.
On occasion, clinicians will use self-tests results as an indicator of an
individual's honesty about alcohol/drug use or as an indicator of potential
denial.

The training manual has been designed to provide a clinician with 'a short
course' on the structure and processes of an effective alcohol/drug assessment.
It describes the history of assessment tool development, the strengths and
shortcomings of assessment instruments being used by others and definitive
instructions on the proper use of Compu-Tools. The manual is constructed as
follows:
Description of Assessment Instruments
Single Scales vs Multiple Scales
Author Bias
Consequences of Use vs Symptoms of Use and Risk Factors
Alcohol Test Scales and Drug Test Scales (Legal and Illegal Use)
Differences between Adult and Adolescent Assessment Tools
Independent Validation vs Internal Validation
Description and Use of Compu-Tools
Adolescent Alcohol and Drug Scales
Adult Alcohol and Drug Scales
Adolescent Alcohol and Drug 'Quick Test' Scales
Adult Alcohol and Drug 'Quick Test' Scales
Anti-Social Behavior Scales (Criminal Behavior)
Psychological Scales (Depression, Anxiety, Cognitive and Anger)
The Self-Study Workbook has been designed to provide individuals and groups
with educational materials that pertain to the use of Alcohol and other Drugs.
The materials included in the Workbook have been extracted from Government
Publications and include information on:
Benefits of Prevention
Risk Factors that contribute to Alcohol/Drug Abuse and Dependency
Information on community resources available to individuals and families
Contemporary Articles on current trends and regulations
Self Study Tests that provide study information on Alcohol/Drug use,
alternatives to use, community resources and many other subjects. The materials
include a sufficient number of exercises to provide any individual with 32
hours of individually tailored courses. From approximately 100 hours of
material, individuals can pick 32 hours of study that 'fit' their particular
circumstances. The answers to each exercise are also provided and are designed
to provide material retention if an 'open book' study method is used.
Educational groups will benefit from the organized presentation of material and
the ability to provide 'individual educational plans' for each client. The
client is able to 'own' his, or her, own material and to be held accountable
for reviewing the material pertinent to their own circumstances.

The psychological tests should be taken with the Teen or Adult alcohol/drug
assessment to provide suitable recommendations. (It is included in the versions
listed above).
**
Questionnaires are paper documents that clients can complete, if computer
access is not available or practical. This allows the client to complete the
self assessment portion of the tests and saves clinician time.
